My Cousin, Elizabeth

My cousin Elizabeth, or Beth as well call her, was born a year after me.
When she was born, we knew she was special.
The doctors said she had Encephalitis.
That is an inflammation of the brain due to an allergy.
Yes, she was born this way, with this allergic reaction.
It has made her unique, as well as left her with a challenging life for the past 37 years.
Pictured here, she plays many sports with the 'Special Olympics' committees, including baseball and bowling. Though it doesn't end there. She even has a job!
I share this with you all in hopes of spreading awareness.
People with disabilities should not be judged or treated differently.
Yes, she has a disability, but it does not hinder her from having a life. She works hard and plays hard just like you or I do. Treat her like you would treat your own cousin.

Wonderful for her!!!!!! I am so close to this because I have a sister who is 66 who wasn't expected to live past childhood. Born with injuries suffered at birth she has led a full life also.

Excellent post - we should always be aware that people are people no matter what. I even have a few "invisible" disabilities and it's hard sometimes to have to explain why I can't do certain things. You are lucky to have Elizabeth in your life...I can tell you love her very much.

Good for her! Looks like she is someone who doesn't let anything keep her from doing what she wants to do.

I agree! My nephew is severely autistic but he has participated in the Special Olympics. It was a thrill to see him try hard and have fun!

We all have disabilities of some sort or another. For some it is a lock of understanding and appreciation for anything or anyone different. That is the worst disability of all.
